Research Trends and Effectiveness of Family Play Therapy in Korea: Focusing on domestic research papers published from 2000 to 2020

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study reviewed 19 academic journal papers published from 2000 to 2020 to analyze the research trends and effectiveness of family play therapy in Korea.
Methods: Content analysis was used to review the articles which are drawn from academic journals certified as Korean Citation Index (KCI) and published between 2000 and 2020.
Results: Firstly, the research trends of the papers were analyzed in five categories: application of family therapy model, participant characteristics, research method & therapy sessions, concreteness of research report for revalidation, and efforts for reliability. Secondly, as a result of analyzing the effectiveness of family play therapy, some effects were identified, such as increasing family intimacy and bonding, improving communication, improving parent-child relationship, improving family cohesion and function, stabilizing the family system, reducing parenting stress, and improving parenting skills. Finally, analysis identified improvements in children's learning disabilities, reduced emotional and behavioral disorders, reduced attention deficit hyperactivity, hyperactivity, and eating disorders.
Conclusions: Future tasks for research and practice in family play therapy are discussed.
